NLP is a modern and highly effective therapy derived from the latest findings on how the mind works.  It recognises that all our behaviours are learned, and so views a problem as simply being a “strategy” we have developed – a way of thinking and behaving that causes us to be stuck in a negative pattern. 

So just as we have learned a (negative) way of doing something, we are also able to “un-learn” it, and learn a new and better way – easily and naturally.  In this way, any problem – whether big or small – is just a strategy that can be changed through new learning and enhanced perspectives.

NLP also provides a solution-focused skill-set which includes techniques and strategies that enable you to naturally change your thinking and behaviour to a way that suits you better.  

Incidentally – NLP has become increasingly popular amongst sportsmen, athletes, company executives, those in the entertainment industry and media – all areas where having a confident mindset is crucial for success.

Women’s Health and Wellbeing Specialist

Hi, my name is Abi and I’m a Cognitive Hypnotherapist with a passion for helping women with all aspects of their health and wellbeing. There are so many concerns that are particular to us: perhaps it’s the menopause and its myriad of accompanying, and often confusing symptoms; or maybe you suffer with problems brought by your period each month; is juggling family and work putting a strain on your relationships, or is anxiety or depression taking over your life and stopping you doing all that you want? And that’s why I want to help.

Although it can be surprising to realise, so much of what we experience consciously, and physically, actually originates in our subconscious, which uses our past experiences and learnt behaviours to make decisions about how we should respond to events in the present. When we find these responses are unhelpful often all it takes is some help and guidance to change the unconscious’s perspective, so it can start giving you better messages and feelings that are much more beneficial.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy is great at helping people change their perspectives. It’s a brief, solution focused, and action led therapy which uses the normal everyday trances we all experience every day, alongside techniques drawn from other effective psychological approaches such as Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Positive Psychology and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help you find the right path to a brighter future. I strongly believe that we all already have the tools we need inside us to find a way out of our problems, it’s just that these can get a little lost and sometimes we need help to find them again.  

To add to the ways is in which I can help women I trained as a Confident Childbirth Practitioner (hypnobirthing), which is a Cognitive Hypnotherapy approach to a better Childbirth experience. The tools needed to help the expectant mother feel more comfortable and in control during her birth experience will be taught over 4 sessions. This includes education around pain and our responses to it, self-hypnosis techniques to use on the day of the birth and useful ways to communicate with medical staff as they help during labour. Further follow up and support can also be arranged.

All my sessions are designed to provide a confidential, safe space for you to explore the issues currently causing you concern, and the flexibility I have over the techniques I can use means this model of therapy is not one size fits all. I will tailor the techniques and strategies I use to best suit you and the way you see the world.

I work to very high ethical standards and am a member of the National Council of Hypnotherapy (NCH) and the Department of Health approved Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) as well as the Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy Practitioners Association (QCHPA).
